Huset KBH, a cultural center that hosts music, film, and art events, wanted to enhance its digital presence and improve how it shares event information with its audience. Recognizing this need, I offered to explore the feasibility and initial design of a dedicated app. Given their limited budget, I focused on creating a prototype for a Progressive Web App (PWA) a practical and cost-effective solution. This prototype not only met their immediate needs but also set the foundation for a fully developed application once funding become available.

Challenge

The challenge was balancing essential features to meet immediate user needs while designing a flexible framework that could easily scale to include future enhancements like ticket sales, user accounts, and third-party integrations.

To design a solution that resonated, I started by immersing myself in Huset’s community.

Knowing the Audience

I began by exploring the habits, preferences, and pain points of Huset’s target audience through interviews and surveys. This research helped me identify key personas such as students, young professionals, and local cultural enthusiasts, which guided the design decisions.

Defining Core Features

Using the MoSCoW method, I prioritized must-haves like event listings and categories, leaving room for enhancements in later iterations.

Low-Fidelity Wireframes

With a clear vision for the app, I created low-fidelity wireframes to structure the layout and features, focusing on simplicity and usability without overcomplicating the design.

Learning from the Field

Next, I analyzed similar cultural platforms, dissecting their strengths and identifying gaps. This competitive analysis sharpened my understanding of what could make Huset’s app stand out.
