Responsibilities
In an era where younger generations prioritize fun, simplicity, and instant gratification, betting platforms like Oddset face a unique challenge: how to capture the attention of this audience while maintaining a seamless, engaging user experience.
This project aimed to reimagine Oddset’s onboarding process by introducing a gamified experience that merges casual gaming with betting culture. By designing a proof of concept prototype, we explored how Oddset could transform the initial user journey into something playful and rewarding offering an innovative approach to attract and retain younger users.
The concept featured a sports-themed twist on the classic game of “Rock, Paper, Scissor” with users betting on champions across various sports. With a focus on vibrant design, smooth interactions, and the flexibility of a Progressive Web App (PWA), the prototype showcased how Oddset could leverage gamification to create a low-pressure, entertaining entry point for new users.
Challenge
It started with a simple but pressing question: How do we make betting relevant to younger audiences who prefer fun, simplicity, and instant gratification?
As younger generations turned increasingly to mobile games and entertainment apps, the brand needed a new approach to capture their attention. Traditional betting felt too complex and niche, struggling to resonate with this audience.
The idea was simple: What if signing up for Oddset felt like playing a game?
We envisioned a gamified onboarding experience something that blurred the line between casual gaming and betting. A proof of concept that would shift perceptions and make users curious to explore the platform.
This wasn’t about launching a finished product but rather exploring possibilities. The concept had to be exciting enough to catch attention but intuitive enough to keep users engaged.
We needed a game that was universal, quick to play, and inherently tied to competition. That’s when inspiration hit us: Rock, Paper, Scissor but with a sporty twist.
Instead of choosing rock, paper, or scissor, users would bet on champions soccer stars, tennis pros, or even esports icons. Each round delivered a balance between the familiar and the new, combining the thrill of competition with the simplicity of a game everyone knows.
To keep users engaged, we added a reward system:
Win rounds, earn points.
Reach milestones, unlock bonuses like 100kr to bet with.
This approach turned the onboarding process into a game itself, where curiosity was rewarded with tangible incentives.

What I learned from this project is that simplicity is key. Young audiences crave easy, immediate experiences, and when these elements are paired with their interests, even complex systems like betting can feel approachable. I also realized that gamification is not just about adding fun; it's a powerful tool for guiding users, building trust, and encouraging action.
Furthermore, technology plays a crucial role in accessibility, and PWAs provide a scalable solution that ensures everyone can engage with the platform, regardless of their device. Lastly, designing for betting platforms requires a careful balance of fun and ethics; by creating low-pressure, engaging experiences, we reframed betting as an interactive and enjoyable activity without compromising integrity.
